Beautiful wrappers don’t improve the tea you’re drinking, but it’s still something nice to look at. One of my favorite puerh wrappers is the 2021 Alexander raw puerh from Xin an Chu.
2021 Alexander raw puerh
I’ve had this 100g tea cake for several years but haven’t drunk it in a long time. This was completely unjustified as this is a stellar tea from the Bulang region, especially at this price point.
This tea was a collaboration between Liu and Dutch artist Roland Carter. Just looking at the wrapper fills me with joy as I like the artist’s work. I know it doesn’t affect the tea, but still…
I’ve been brewing it while doing other work (like writing this blog post) and it’s a really enjoyable tea. Harvested in spring 2021 from wild arbor trees.
There is a slight bitterness in the background that is quickly replaced by a sweet fruitiness. There is some citrus and something that feels like spring.
It feels like a fresh and crisp spring morning when you feel summer is still far off, but winter is slowly coming to an end. Drinking this tea gives me that feeling as if I’m standing on a meadow while everyone else is still asleep.
Not coincidentally, this is the song I’m listening to as it fits the moment perfectly.
There is also a slight hint of incense but the most interesting and delicious aspect is the aftertaste! A certain sweetness fills my mouth and if I wait a little longer before taking another sip, I’m experiencing full-on raspberry jam.
You can buy the 2021 Alexander over here. It’s affordable and only 100g per cake.
Website update
Drinking this tea is the perfect companion while updating my website again. As you know, I lost a year’s content and updates so I had to update the layout again.
It’s a tedious job (doing that with WordPress) but I finally started…
I’m slowly getting there while sipping some great tea…
