Silver Needle Peach Iced Tea

Drinking tea or any other hot beverage during a heatwave might not be for everyone. Because of the heatwave in Belgium last week, I started thinking about a recipe for iced tea to successfully deal with the heat. The recipe I came up with is a Silver Needle Peach Iced Tea. It includes several healthy and refreshing ingredients to cool down and make the heat more bearable. It’s not a difficult recipe and doesn’t take that long to make. You only need 6 different ingredients and 25 minutes of your time.

I recently tasted an unusual oolong tea from Taiwan. The Wen Shan Bao Zhong is a lightly oxidised oolong that is a crossbreed between a fresh green tea and a floral oolong tea. It really offers the best of both worlds. You can read my notes over here

Silver Needle Peach iced Tea

Ingredients

  • 2-3g of Silver Needle tea
  • 1 peach
  • Half a lemon
  • A small piece of ginger
  • 1 teaspoon of honey
  • Ice

Time to make: around 25 minutes

How to make it

Step 1

First, you need to heat water to around 90°C. Once the water is warm, put the Silver Needle tea leaves in a large/long glass. I suggest taking around 2-3 g of leaves. Pour water over the leaves and let it steep for around 5 minutes. After five minutes, remove the leaves and let it cool off. Make sure you don’t completely fill your glass as you need to add the other ingredients as well later on.

Step 2

While the tea is cooling off, remove the skin of the peach and cut it into small pieces. Watch out because it can be tricky to safely remove the seed (also known as pit or stone). Don’t hurt yourself!

Step 3

Squeeze half of the lemon and collect the juice because that is what you will need to make the iced tea.

Step 4

Squash the ginger (after peeling it first) by using a garlic press. Collect both the juices and the ginger itself and add it to the lemon juice.

Step 5

Add honey (around 1 teaspoon) and add it to the mixture of lemon juice and ginger. Stir thoroughly so everything is mixed nicely.

Step 6

Add the mixture of lemon juice, ginger and honey to the Silver Needle tea once it has cooled off a bit.

Step 7

Once the previous ingredients are mixed together, add the peach as well. It might seem too much peach but that won’t be an issue.

Step 8

The final step is adding ice (as much as you want) to really make it ice cold!

Once you are done, you can sit down, relax and enjoy a refreshing and delicious drink! You don’t have to but it’s nice to eat the peach while you’re sipping the drink. If you ask me, this is the perfect drink to cool down and enjoy during hot summer days.

In order to make this iced tea, I used mei Leaf’s Silver needle tea. I had some laying around and I thought it would be better to use it. You don’t have to use Mei Leaf’s Silver Needle but if you want to buy it, you can buy it over here. It’s even on sale right now!
